La Quinceanera is a young girls dream

By admin | July 3, 2009

La Quinceanera is also known as Mis Quince in many areas. This party marks the fifteenth birthday of a young Hispanic girl. Very similar to a mixture between the Bat Mitzvah and a Sweet Sixteenth party this could be a huge event. Families are known to save up money long before the fifteenth birthday to make this the most lavish party ever. Lavish it can be, too.

The Quinceanera can involve live bands, limos, flowers, catered food, and heaps of gifts. Its normal for the young girl celebrating her fifteenth to choose a particularly stylish ball robe dress for the occasion. The family and friends members will also dress up for the quinceanera, but the birthday girl can not be outshined by any one. La Quinceanera comes from the Spanish for the fifteenth birthday, and as discussed before its ordinarily celebrated in Hispanic cultures in places such as Mexico and South America. It is also a spiritual party for everyone concerned with the party. A church service is held before the party where the priest speaks about the significance of the Quinceanera practice.

In old custom the complete group follows the party girl thru the city in parade formation to where the party happens. Now, though its more sure to be a parade of automobiles. At the party the 15 years old will have her conventional ‘first’ coed dance with a boy, signaling that she is growing up. Then others join her on the dance floor for some fun and probably to earn some dance floor prizes.

Finding Appropriate Gifts for Quinceaños

By admin | November 20, 2008

We look for sites that go the extra distance to understand and appreciate our Latin heritage and customs.  Take for example the special tradition of Quinceaños.  Most sites reference Quinceanera rather than Quinceaños.  While for many the terms are almost interchangeable, it’s nice to see a site that actually takes the time to get it right.  Recently we found a post on Princess4aDay.com that got it right.  Moreover, the product they found was a lovely Quinceanera cross that any young lady would want to keep to remember her special day for years to come.

We don’t make recommendations often but Princess4aDay.com which tends to focus on wedding related issues, is clear treasure and a good source for wedding and gift ideas.

By the way, with gifts in mind, the upcoming holiday season often leads us to look for personalized gift ideas that we can use for presents for our loved ones.  With the economy affecting us all, we need to make sure we get great value for our money.  Look for good gift ideas under $25 and look for specials on sites as we head into the Christmas season.  Many news agencies are reporting that many items may be placed on sale and we can look forward to free shipping on many sites.  Enjoy your value hunting this year and be sure to have a very happy holiday season.

Being Green Is Really Easy

By admin | September 12, 2008

You have probably heard a lot about being “green” in the news and pretty much everywhere you go lately.  Sometimes all the information about being green can be overwhelming; however, being green really can be easy and pain free.  Let me give you three examples of being green so you can see just how easy it is!

1) Recycle everything you possibly can–most cities offer curbside pickup.  2) Change all light bulbs in your home to compact florescent light bulbs–they come in all shades and sizes now.  3) Compost all your non-meat/cheese food scraps/yard waste–makes the BEST garden soil/amendment.   Just doing these three things makes such a huge difference to the earth and will get you started in the right direction towards a greener life.
